Robus Director takes the helm of the Guernsey insurance industry body

Robus Director Adele Gale assumes the role of ‘Chair’ of the insurance industry body in Guernsey.

Being at the forefront of developments in the insurance industry has been a priority for Robus since its foundation by the late Chris Le Conte.  Adele, in her new role, will continue this tradition as she takes the lead of the Guernsey International Insurance Association (“GIIA”).

Adele, Director of Robus Guernsey and Group Head of ILS, took on the role of Chair of GIIA on 28th February 2023. GIIA was formed in 1983 to represent the combined interests of both Guernsey insurers and Guernsey insurance managers. Over the decades of lobbying, GIIA has achieved a significant amount, most recently the world’s first ESG Framework for insurers and lobbying the regulator to develop a ‘pre-authorisation’ scheme for cell captives.

“I am honoured to have been elected as the Chair of GIIA”, Adele said “and to work alongside so many contributors to our committees and working groups to support the promotion of Guernsey, to develop new products and to lobby for change.  2023 marks the 40th birthday of GIIA and in that time the Association has achieved a huge amount and is today an energised and engaging place to collaborate with our peers.  Last year we celebrated 100 years since the establishment of the first captive in Guernsey and this year we’ll be remembering 25 years since Guernsey created PCC legislation and all the innovations we’ve seen since then.

“In 2023 we will run our new sixth form targeted recruitment campaigns which alongside the work of the Insurance Development Forum and recently launched bespoke insurance management textbook and diploma will continue to build on our industry succession planning.   In terms of ESG we’ll be developing our Framework, continuing its evolution to keep pace with global trends, and issuing new guidance to help insurers comply with emerging regulatory and disclosure requirements.

“Our Regulatory and Technology Committee will have a new head, Manus Carvil, and my predecessor Mark Elliott will take over as Chair of the Market Development Committee and I’m looking forward to working with both of them.  All of this alongside our usual cycle of events and conferences.”

Paul Cole, Managing Director of Robus Gibraltar and Group Chief Operating Officer took on the role of Chair of the Gibraltar Insurance Association (“GIA”) some 6 months ago and is already helping to support the future of the industry in that domicile. The GIA was established in 1997 and is an over-arching organisation which effectively represents all the diverse elements of the insurance industry in Gibraltar. The GIA has worked closely with the Gibraltar government and regulator to ensure that the Gibraltar insurance industry is “open for business”. With Adele now Chair of the GIIA, it is a real testament to the quality and respect that is afforded to senior members of the Robus team!
